Xolo Q700 battery Analysis

The Xolo Q700 packs a fully loaded 2400 mAH battery, in contrast to most phones that range between 1800 and 2000 mAH, and this is a highlight of the Xolo Q700.. in the past 6 weeks I have seen that the phone very easily handles a whole day of smartphone use for news, emails, wifi network, 3G network and everything that a person buys a smartphone.
I observed that the phone drains really fast between 25% and 13% - some bad sectors in the battery? This could be one defect..

27H average life - Xolo Q700 easily lasts a day

Overall as the table below showcases I am getting ~27 hours of use time with the phone with the screen, google play and voice calls being the big drains. But at 18 hours of voice calls no body is complaining.

Beasically recorded the overall drainage of the battery 4 times over the past 2 weeks recording diligently the amount of time used by each of the dominant app, as shown below

XOLO Q-700 my 2nd Desi Phone - Review

In june after I returned from my Australia trip quite happy with the experience with my first desi phone the Karbonn Titanium S5 in that trip, I decided that dad needed an upgrade on his 3 year old HTC wildfire, which with a 3” low res screen  and very little storage was giving a lot of pain..
After some quick research and help from TV ads, I saw and zeroed in on the Xolo Q700 as a good bet, buying it at  www.mirchimart.com a good site {I would also suggest smartprix.com a meta search engine and then there is always google!} for buying smart phones.  At a price of INR 939.00 the xolo Q 700 is a great phone.. Once I received the phone and opened the package, I decided to give the tried and tested KTS5 to dad and play around with the Xolo Q700 and this blog is a review of my experience for the past 6 weeks with the phone.

Xolo was Lava’s brand for intel chips and then got forked as a separatebrand. Currently the Q series are non intel chips with this phone having a mediatek quadcore chip.. interestingly the packaging showed that this was an imported unit manufactured in china and white-labeled into Xolo for india.. wonder what other brands have got plastered on this specific device. It is overall a great business model. China makes white labeled phone , load OS to specifications and ship it directly to warehouses and customers.
The xolo logo is visible only in the back panel and in a handful Xolo apps that come preloaded.
Now to the structure Review..

Highlights

The highlights of the phone is its very low price , Quadcore CPU with 1 Gb Memory, decent audio quality, USB 3.0 and most importantly 2400 mAH battery that provides very good battery life for supporting all the smartphone features.

íííí
BODY
135.8 x 67.5 x 10.2 mm (5.35 x 2.66 x 0.40 in)
smaller that 5" phones easy to hold, also not the slimmest of phones..
ííí
SOUND
Vibration, MP3 ringtones
audio quality is great..
íííí
MEMORY
4 GB, 1 GB RAM
great amount of internal storage and RAM but a 16GB ext SD card is advised for media. Internal storage available is 2.8 GB decent. For its price range providing 1 GB memory is a great plus
íííí
DATA
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot
again great performance, with low power consumption and great reception within wifi range..
íííí
DATA
Yes, v3.0
have not tested the speeds but this could make it a great storage addon for the user
íííí
FEATURES
Android OS, v4.2 (Jelly Bean)
this is a key highlight, as google is improving android leaps and bounds in very version upgrade.. Project butter and the setting and notifications see significant improvements while this is not a hardware manufacturers differentiators, users are advised to go for phones with 4.2.2
Another great feature is the option to disable default apps, I much have knocked off atleast 10 apps that came with the phone,
íííí
FEATURES
MTK 6589W-M ] Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7
great chipset, cheap helps bring low cost high end phones to the table.. No jitter at all..
íííí
FEATURES
Software
GSM - NA
Xolo has some cool apps like secure, power manager, which are very useful and handy , innovative thinking nby xolo centric to customer need
also the default phone and contacts app provides a recorder that is handy during calls
íííí
BATTERY

Li-Ion 2400 mAh battery
this is another highlight of the phone.. Very long life wil post a separate thread on the battery performance
íííí

Up to 380 h
great battery life

Where the Phone Sucks

The phone is a dual standby design, which means callers will get an out of network message when the other sim is in use. It does not support quad-band 3G which means in the US for a traveller do not expect high speed network access. Touch is very sketchy cannot use it for drawing and swipe is many times erratic, slow flow is expected from the user to get words right.
Another itchy pain-point is that a partition of the internal storage gets reflected as External SDCard on the OS which means that SDCard does not reflect in most defalt menus, one has to opt manually for storing app content in the SD card outside settings! Therefore Move to SD card does not work.
I found the GPS to be of poor quality. Apps like mytracks that need continuous tracking apps do not work smoothly. The GPS also takes time to get activated.
Finally accessory list for the phone is limited

Dual SIM (Mini-SIM)
dual stand by brings down user experience!
í
DISPLAY
IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
touchscreen is poor quality not as smooth as leading phones, this causes issues while swiping and other use
í
DISPLAY
Yes
yes but not as smooth as top end phones
íí
SOUND
Yes
the jack is to apple standards which means samsung headphones that I have do not work… but compliant to standrd.. Great the head phones themselves  are bad quality I am now using my apple headphones
íí
MEMORY
microSD, up to 32 GB
does not read SDCard as default, internal storage gets presented as SDCard causing confusion
í
FEATURES
Yes, with A-GPS support
though it claims A-gps, gps quality is very bad, esp while using apps like mytracks!.. Not very useful. Karbonn was far better
í
FEATURES
accessories
GSM - NA
while GSM does not specific available accessories in the market, Xolo Q700 has very few add on accessories that can be bought additionally, this makes the experience a bit lousy.
í

Other Features

The camera in the phone is decent nothing to brag about, 5Mega pixel is good for normal pics take on the fly, and its ability to take low light pictures is better than most phones.. couple of pictures showcased below.

dual sim quad-band phone. It is dual standby.. This is a nuisance as calls to one sim when the other is in use, go to the caller as user is out of network.. Signal quality better than motorola, HTC and samsung
